Defeating Depression & Beating the Blues

University studies have shown that using your smile muscles, even by saying "Cheese," can raise the endorphins in you brain and body and make you less depressed. In my book, "Defeating Depression & Beating the Blues," I list 50 instantaneous activities or ideas to help you overcome depression. Listen to uplifting music, keep a gratitude journal, sing happy songs, dance, walk, exercise, help someone else, change your stinking-thinking by using positive affirmation such as "I enjoy having a sense of humor", practice laughing, are just a few of the fifty.

I have been in therapy for nearly a year and I think this book has helped me understand depression better than the counseling sessions. I liked the author's personalization, because I also was so depressed, I felt like I was in the belly of the whale. It's rare to find a therapist who understands what you are going through when you are depressed. I was at rock-bottom when I bought this book. It gave me hope. After reading her nutritional section, I found out that I had hypoglycemia and candida. As the candida clears up, and the diet improves (no sugar, white flour), I find that I am feeling so much better. I also walk around saying, "Cheese," and I believe it does change my endorphins. I recommend it. Maybe it's a five star.

"Change your stinking thinking," makes me laugh all by itself Patty. Love that line. I'll have to try that say Cheese. Yes we all need to try to stay happy, life is too short! Thanks for posting this! Cheese! :)

Wow! Just saying cheese helps in fighting depression? That's amazing! I love your tips! Even if these are small things towards totally defeating depression, it's a big thing already. It's a step closer to preventing people from taking antidepressant drugs, which are found to be fatal.

About the uplifting music part, I agree with that. Recently, in our Thetahealing sessions, the instructor has been playing music that, according to her, is a tool for healing and for therapy. It had something to do with those Theta waves I've been researching all over the Net. My friends told me that I'm not going to regret attending these Theta healing sessions. They weren't kidding. I'm loving it!

Thanks for sharing your book with us. I'm thinking of getting one after I've read your little sneak peek about it. I'm actually looking for alternative healing methods, because everyone knows that medicine these days are getting more and more expensive.

Music is one of the best things in the world that can help you heal. I consider it as an alternative healing medicine, along with laughter. Well, maybe it's not just me who has that view. I know there are a lot more people out there who tend to just laugh all of their pains out, or just listen to good music instead of sulking about something.
